Timber panelling: how to plan the quantity

Wall area alone does not establish how much timber panelling to order. Profile, effective cover width, lengths and laying direction matter too. Confirm the final quantity for the selected board and layout.

List each surface separately

For a rectangular wall multiply width by height: 3 m × 2.5 m gives 7.5 m². Keep individual wall dimensions alongside the total. Show openings, recesses and slopes. Their effect depends on cuts and reusable offcuts, so subtracting all openings does not always establish the purchasing quantity.

Use effective cover width

Part of a jointed profile is used by the connection. Coverage requires the useful width after joining, not only the overall board width. Check whether the product is sold by square metre, linear metre, board or pack: these represent different quantities. Use figures for the selected profile.

Plan lengths and cuts

Vertical and horizontal layouts can position joints differently. Compare walls with board lengths and identify visible edges. Cutting allowance follows the layout, not one fixed percentage for all orders. Confirm profile, finish, lengths and stock before ordering rather than relying on an illustration.

Describe the conditions

Explain whether the application is indoors or outdoors. Not every board or coating suits every environment. Confirm material and protection for the intended use. Send dimensions and an email address to discuss quantity, an individual calculation and delivery conditions.

Your preparation checklist

  • Wall dimensions and an opening sketch.
  • Laying direction and selected profile.
  • Effective cover width and lengths.
  • Intended use, finish and email address.
